UNIT 2 SOCIAL SCIENCE: AIR AND WATER

En esta unidad vamos a aprender acerca del agua, el viento y el tiempo atmosférico.

WATER

Places where we can find water in nature: seas, oceans, lakes, rivers, icebergs, clouds, rain, hail, snow, geysers…

Characteristics of water:

- Water has no color.

- Water has no smell.

- Water has no taste.

Three states of water:

- Solid, for example icebergs.

- Liquid, for example lakes. El instrumento que recoge la cantidad de agua de lluvia que ha caido en un lugar se llama pluviómetro.

- Gas (vapor), for example clouds.

The water cycle.

It has four steps:

- When it is hot, water evaporates from the seas and rivers. EVAPORATIÓN

- Water vapor forms clouds. CONDENSATION

- When the clouds are cold, it rains or snows. PRECIPITATION

- The rain or snow falls into the rivers or lakes, then this water from the rivers go to the seas or oceans COLLECTION

Then the water cycle starts again.

THE AIR

- Air covers our planet.

- This air is the atmosphere.

- There are clouds in the atmosphere.

- The wind is air in motion.

- The wind moves the clouds.

- Cuando el aire se mueve, se llama viento. Cuando el viento es muy suave, se llama brisa (breeze). Y si es fuerte, se llama vendaval (gale). Si ya es muy, muy fuerte se llama huracán (hurricane).

- El instrumento de medida de la dirección del viento se llama veleta y el que mide la velocidad del viento se llama anemómetro.

- Los cuatro puntos cardinales: norte, sur, este y oeste.

THE WEATHER

Hot, cold, cloudy, foggy, windy, snowy, stormy and rainy.

La temperatura se mide con el termómetro que nos dice en grados que temperatura hace en un lugar.
